### Important Questions:

Q – What is gravitational force?

A – All the heavenly bodies attract each other. There is a force which acts on. This force is called gravitational force.

Q – What is gravity?

A – Force of gravitation due to the earth is called gravity.

Q – What is centripetal force?

A – When we moves a stone released with thread in a circular path with a certain speed, then it changes direction at every point. The change in direction involves change in velocity and acceleration. The force that causes this acceleration and keeps the body moving along the circular path is acting toward the centre. This force is called the centripetal force.

Q – Name the force by which caused the motion of the moon around the earth.

A – Centripetal force.

Q – Write the universal law of gravitation.

A -  The law of gravitation states that the force of attraction between any two objects is proportional to the product of their masses and inversely proportional to the square of the distance between them. The law applies to objects anywhere in the universe. Such a law is said to be universal.

Q – What is universal gravitation constant?

A – G is the constant of proportionality and is called the universal gravitation constant. Which value is 6.673 ´10-11 N m2 Kg-2

Its S.I unit is N m2 Kg-2.

Q – Explain the importance of the universal law of gravitation.

Q – What do you mean by free fall?

A – When any object falls towards the earth under the gravitational force alone, we say that the object is in free fall.

Q – What is acceleration due to gravity? Write its unit. Write its value.

A – Whenever an object falls towards the earth, an acceleration is involved. This acceleration is due to the earth’s gravitational force. Therefore this acceleration is called acceleration due to gravity.

Its S.I unit is m s-2 and it is denoted by g.

Its value is 9.8 m s-2

Q – Establish, relation between gravity (G) and acceleration due to gravity (g).

A -

g = G M/d2

Q – Write differences between gravity (G) and acceleration due to gravity (g).

A –
